GABA Supplement Helps You Sleep

Everyone experiences insomnia or sleeplessness at some point in their life; it is very common today, irrespective of age, sex and health condition. Insomnia or sleeplessness is caused due to over stimulation of our mind or body. GABA or Gama-aminobutyric acid is the most abundant inhibitory neurotransmitter of the brain, a shortage in the level of GABA interferes with the sleep quality and causes disturbance. Studies have proved that if the GABA receptors, through binding, are activated it can favor sleep. And above all, when an individual is in a state of stress and anxiety, there is a fall in the production of GABA, which causes a flaring situation and is difficult to calm down. The difficulty arises because the inhibitory property of GABA is less effective during the state of stress and anxiety, as the GABA receptors are in a binding condition. This results in insomnia.

The duration of sleep and the after effects of wake up are linked with certain factors like emotional stress and excitement. These states of mind are directly responsible for insomnia. Some medicines also have side effects, which either makes one fee sleepy and drowsy all the time or causes sleeplessness. Some elements of food are also intoxicating and can cause sleep disorders. Additives like caffeine, MSG or monosodium glutamate and some spices which are very strong can affect sleep.

If sleep disorders turn out to be insomnia, then it needs to be treated. Sleep disorders or disturbances are quite common, it happens to all of us. But insomnia is a chronic problem. Besides medication, insomnia can also be treated by using GABA.

How GABA Helps Treat Insomnia

Gama-aminobutyric acid, commonly known a GABA, is an amino acid that has a calming effect on human body and mind. GABA is produced by the brain in ample amount for its proper functioning. It allows the brain to relax and feel at ease, it induces sleep and maintains a proper balance between the mind and the body.

GABA helps in distressing and this in turn can give you good sleep. Once the mind is in a state of relaxation, it is easy to rest. If our mind is preoccupied or excited, it is difficult to concentrate on anything that affects our sleep. An adult needs at least 8 to 9 hours of undisturbed sleep that refreshes the mind and gives us a healthy body.

GABA is a natural tranquilizer, with minimum side effects. It is better to take GABA at night, in an empty stomach.
