GABA for Anxiety

GABA helps you feel more balanced, both mentally and physically, and controls the rhythmic theta waves of the brain; things that are instrumental in reducing anxiety. The author of Mind Boosters, Dr. Ray Sahelian quotes “GABA is the most important and widespread inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Excitation in the brain must be balanced with inhibition. Too much excitation can lead to restlessness, irritability, insomnia, and even seizures. GABA supplements are able to induce relaxation, analgesia, and sleep.”

About Anxiety

Anxiety is a term used to describe a physical and mental imbalance and uneasiness. The term can be interchangeably used as stress, nervousness, worry and fear. Anxiety, the term has been derived from “angst”, which means pain or anguish. Anxiety means mental pain or anguish.

A sizeable chunk suffers from anxiety and mixed depression. The most prevalent problems among sufferers are a pervasive and generalized anxiety or “wary warts”.

Conventional method of treatment, such as medications helps incase of an acute problem, which is short-term. But, if the problem is chronic, which means it is a long-term problem then alternative treatment is required.

Anxiety is usually followed by irritability, muscle tension, sleep disorders, restlessness, fatigue and tiredness. These symptoms can be recognized very easily, but treating the chronic form is very challenging. As these symptoms can be recognized by a layman, the person suffering from this problem tends to impair oneself from socializing and communicating with the world. It can worsen the situation and lead to depression. Use GABA, a natural supplement to release your stress and anxiety.

GABA Supplement Research

The author of The Edge Effect: Achieve Total Health and Longevity with the Balanced Brain Advantage, Dr. Eric Braverman says “”GABA is also involved in the production of endorphins, brain chemicals that create a feeling of well-being known as ‘runners high.’ Endorphins are produced in the brain during physical movement, such as stretching or even sexual intercourse.” Once the endorphins are released from the body, the sensation is calming, and is known as “Endorphin effect”.

It is difficult to keep yourself away from stress and anxiety, considering the current state of affairs, yet it is always better to allow your mind to settle down and relax. Too much of a busy brain interferes with your lifestyle and jeopardizes your immune system.

In cases of acute anxiety, it is better to consider GABA natural supplements than the prescribed anti-depressant and anti-anxiety pills. If the case is chronic the neurotransmitter tests area must be addressed.

GABA itself is a neurotransmitter ( a chemical that promotes communication between our brain and nerve cells) and is very essential for the brain to function properly.

I’ve suffered from anxiety on and off through my life and the last 8 years it has been chronic and impacting my life negatively….cutting myself off from society and everyday activities are very limited. I considered suicide, I was so miserable.
I’m using GABA and have sent for Inositol to supplement with also.

Just a short experience. I was taking 1500 GABA and trypthophan …1000mg at night…trying to ease the anxiety. I went to a psychiatrist and was given Buspar..about 4 days in, taking Buspar and the above supplements I woke one morning realized I slept the night through with no bad dreams just blissful oblivion and NO anxiety!!! I thought how could a medication work so fast? I regained confidence and lost my social fears….as the days went by the wonderful feelings slowly passed. Although I did not suffer the high level of anxiety I had been, having those few days of being ‘normal’ made me resent my descent away from being free of the stress and suffering. Reading this site among others…I am thinking the Buspar used the GABA and Tryptophan to regulate my serotonin and since I had just begun to supplement …used up what was in my system…so I am going to be viligent using the supplements to regulate the serotonin similar to SSRIs and see what happens. If able, I will come back to report, so others suffering, can perhaps derive some ideas from using supplements to help neurotransmitters and balance of brain chemicals to their benefit.
